This post is probably familiar to anyone that serves, regardless of the amount time they have been doing it. We have all had them, or will have them, and continue to annoy us, they shall. I don’t know about you, but I cannot stand when someone is trying to get my attention and they call me by the wrong name. Most of the time when this happens I don’t respond, and golly gee I wonder why? Then the customer usually gets disturbed if they’re trying to get my attention and I don’t respond, because they aren’t calling me by my name. But seriously, how am I supposed to know you are talking to me? There could be fifty people in the place with the same name you’re calling out, that’s why I have a name tag, dipshit. Speaking of name tag, I had a guest the other day that was looking at me and called me by the wrong name when I was facing and standing right next to him, not to mention I literally introduced myself less than a minute before and the name tag on my chest right in front of this dude’s face has big block letters spelling it out in four letters. I mean, c’mon man, when your wife is telling you that that’s not my name, it’s spelled out for you, and I just said it, you think your arrogant ass would get the hint. I just blew it off and kept on working, despite the fact that this guy loved to ask me questions and every time he did so it was a new name. Does anyone understand the meaning and derivation of this? What I want to know is; what drives an individual to this? Obviously the good manners mean absolutely nothing, if the person can’t even take the time to listen or even yet, read. The person obviously can read because they are looking at the menu pointing out what they want to eat. I wish people would consider the feelings of their server, and realize if they take care of us, we’ll take care of them. But, I guess the old saying, “Ignorance is bliss,” is definitely relevant when it comes to serving tables. Next time I just might stop what I’m doing and make it real clear to my guest, “My name is ****, jackass!”
