Why is it that no matter where I serve there is always that one manager who thinks they are the “Almighty Manager” and can control everyone and everything? The place I’m working at has probably the worst one of these kind I’ve ever had the fortunate privilege to work for. I mean this one is vicious. This woman has the “hoochie mama” attitude. This woman has never served for one day in her life and she thinks she knows everything there is to know about serving. I’ve been serving longer than she’s been in the food service industry and it amazes me how this woman operates. She obviously doesn’t understand what it means when someone is “in the weeds”. I have a perfect example. One Sunday morning the busy church crowd that always rushes in to eat after their morning service, was filling up the restaurant fast. The place I work for does not allow a server to have more than three table sections, or a table of 8 guests or more without help from another server. Well, I had a four top, a three top, a twelve top and a table of nineteen. They all arrived at different times, so they were at different points in their meals. Well, the nineteen top finished up and headed out, meanwhile, I still had the other three tables. Slammed and in the weeds with these needy tables, that manager comes up and gets in my face, giving me a very dirty look, and asks, “Why isn’t your table clean?! What happened to prebussing?!” I looked at her with the are you serious look, and she obviously expected an answer. I replied, “Look, I’m in the weeds, I have three very needy tables, and only one of my big tops left leaving me with still three tables. What do you expect me to do?!” I just walked off and ignored whatever bull she was saying. Later on in the shift she was constantly trying to call me out, but I would deliberately disrespect her by not even paying attention to her and continuing to do things the way I was trained for the place I work, not her way. I even had other servers sticking up for me when she would say stupid things. To this day I do not have any respect for her, simply because she doesn’t know how things really are, for if she did, she would be a completely different person. Part of a manager’s job is to motivate their crew, no inhibit their will to work. I always try to just keep to myself when she is there, and come to think about it, the days she’s there are the only days I feel like looking for another job. That is just a small taste of the personality of this woman, she’s crazy!
