A couple of days ago while I was working, I seemed to be a target for bad luck. It was right in the middle of the dinner rush on one of the busiest days of the week. I had a table with seven people, who were very nice. They got sat while I was cleaning my other two tables, so I was immediately there to greet them. While I was getting things started with this table, my other two tables were sat at the exact same time. The seven top was a little needy so I made my other two tables wait a little bit too long for their appetizers. So I rushed back in to the kitchen and grabbed both tables’ appetizers, and hurried out to drop them off. As I rounded the corner, holding their tray of food as high as I could, I brought the tray from full extension in my right hand to set it on the tray jack (my left hand) all the way down at table level, when all of a sudden the plates all shifted left and flipped the tray upside down to my left. The tray had souffle cups filled with thousand island dressing, ranch, cocktail sauce, salads with dressing and bread. I dropped to my knees and didn’t move. I could feel the look of everyone in the restaurant, when I looked up I noticed a Coach purse belonging to a woman sitting at the seven top, covered in the thousand island dressing. My heart sank and immediately I kept repeating, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” She, along with the rest of my guests all acted so cool. She told me it was no problem, and come to think about it, I don’t remember at all ever cleaning it off of her purse, more or less getting paper towels to clean it up. It just disappeared. Anyway, that was just the beginning.
So after that incident, I had more bad luck. I was taking the plates that were finished being used off of the seven top, when all of the plates covered in nasty, eaten food, and waste, just flopped off my tray and on the floor. I felt like the biggest idiot! So no big deal, the guests were still very nice and left me a decent tip, probably because they felt bad for my idiot self. It was all my fault, there was no one else to blame.
Then, after all of that, I ended the night covered in water, tea, and melted butter, and stayed an extra two hours after closing because there was some NEW way of closing. All in all, a crappy night, with no one else to blame but myself.
