Plans for January 2009
We will be starting the new year with two exciting activities:
- planning and preliminary work on a proposed video about the “Big Herd Scenario” projects
- rapid assessment of the waterbuck behavior by the graduate Ethology class from TAMU
This is our proposed schedule. Lets dialogue so we can fine tune it!
Jan 7 Wed. Jane arrives at Fossil Rim with the prep team (George & Joan stay at Lodge; Gene & Jane at Wolf Ridge Cabin) update draft proposal; check out jeep until 1/17
Jan 8 Thurs. meetings with staff to explain the proposed video project; winterize cabin
Jan 9 Fri. exploratory video footage; feedback on draft proposal
Jan 10 Sat. Prep team leaves; Jane sets up small conference room and Wolf Ridge Cabins for Rapid Assessment Team (RAT = grad Ethology class)
Jan 11 Sun. RA team arrives (3-5 people); introduction, orientation, assignments; supper at Wolf Ridge (all FR interns and staff invited)
Jan 12 Mon. Introduction to Dr. Hoof Stock goals; reconnaisance observations of waterbuck
Jan 13 Tues. Observation protocol and exercises (defining research questions and research design)
Jan 14 Wed. Data collection and ethogram exercise
Jan 15 Thurs. Data collection and observer reliability exercise
Jan 16 Fri. 3 pm Presentation of preliminary results for Fossil Rim staff and interns
Jan 17 Sat. Check out from Wolf Ridge
