AERA Fellowships and Grants for Graduate Students

Below are detailed descriptions of the AERA research funding opportunities.

AERA-AIR (A2) Fellows Program

The AERA-AIR (A2) Fellows Program aims to build the talent pool of high skilled education researchers experienced in large scale studies in a major research organization. A2 fellows will receive mentoring from a diverse group of highly recognized researchers and practitioners in a variety of substantive areas in education. Fellows will hone their skills in all aspects of the research process from proposal development through writing and presentations.Up to three fellows are selected annually for a two year, rotational position at AIR in Washington, DC. The application deadline is December 15, 2009.

AERA-ETS Fellowship Program in Measurement

The AERA-ETS Fellowship Program in Measurement is designed to provide learning opportunities and practical experience to recent doctoral degree recipients and to early career research scientists in areas such as educational measurement, assessment design, psychometrics, statistical analyses, large-scale evaluations, and other studies directed toward explaining student progress and achievement. Up to two fellows will be selected for this rotational research position at ETS’s facilities in Princeton, NJ. The application deadline is December 15, 2009.

Minority Fellowship Program in Education Research

AERA offers dissertation support through the AERA Minority Dissertation Fellowship in Education Research. This program offers doctoral fellowships to enhance the competitiveness of outstanding minority scholars for academic appointments at major research universities by supporting their conducting education research and by providing mentoring and guidance toward completion of their doctoral studies. The application deadline is December 15, 2009.

AERA Grants Program

The AERA Grants Program provides dissertation support and small grants for researchers who conduct studies of education policy and practice using quantitative methods and data from the large-scale data sets sponsored by the National Center for Education Statistics and the National Science Foundation. Upcoming application deadlines are January 5, 2010 and March 10, 2010.

Call for Papers – All Submissions to be made electronically

The purposes of the Society for the Study of Curriculum History are to encourage scholarly study of curriculum history and to provide an opportunity for the presentation and discussion of research inquiries into curriculum history. The Society was founded in April of 1977 at Teachers College, Columbia University. Attendance at the annual meeting, held in conjunction with the AERA conference, is open to all.

Proposals for the SSCH meeting should generally reflect interpretations of important issues and influential events and persons in the history of the curriculum field, and in the history of the formation of curriculum theory, curriculum policy, and curriculum practice. We welcome traditional papers and symposium submissions, but we also are interested in new and alternative forms of presentation.

The Society welcomes submissions from professors, international scholars, and doctoral students researching all aspects and subjects of the school curriculum.

Send the following (as a single file) electronically:
1. Cover page including title of paper, name of presenter, institutional affiliation, office mailing address, office telephone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses;
2. A 500 word proposal that includes statements of objectives, theoretical framework, research methods, data sources, and general conclusions.

The ICLS 2010 conference theme, “Learning in the Disciplines,” invites you
to explore the ways disciplinary perspectives can inform the study of
learning in educational settings, workplaces, and other contexts. This
conference will bring together scholars from a range of disciplines with
researchers in the sciences of learning, instruction, and design. These
diverse perspectives will be brought together to address questions of how we
can better understand and improve learning.

This conference theme highlights central Learning Sciences questions such
as:

·      How can disciplinary practices and understandings inform Learning
Sciences research, theory, and design?

·      How do learning processes vary across disciplines?  What, if
anything, is constant?

·      How are disciplinary practices and knowledge represented in
educational settings, designs, and practices? How might they be
reconsidered?

·      How can collaborative research and comparative perspectives
contribute to Learning Sciences research and practice?

Themes highlighted in special panel sessions include:

·      Identity as a lens on learning within and across the disciplines

·      Representational practices and modeling in the disciplines

·      Designs for disciplinary learning

Submissions are encouraged that speak to these and other themes associated
with the Learning Sciences, and the interdisciplinary study of learning.

*The High School Journal* publishes articles discussing the multiple
dimensions of secondary education. We welcome original manuscripts that
investigate or problematize issues of relevance to secondary students,
teachers, and schools.

We are especially interested at this time in manuscripts addressing issues
related to the Obama administration’s plans for secondary education as well
as manuscripts addressing the impact of the current economic crisis on
secondary education. However, all manuscripts related to secondary education
are welcome and encouraged.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to high...@unc.edu.
Please include:

* Cover Letter including the name, contact information and affiliation of
the author. If the manuscript is co-authored, please indicate to whom the
correspondence should be addressed. Please clarify in the cover letter that
the particular work is not under consideration by any other publication
sources.

* One full copy of the manuscript typed double-spaced (including quotations
and references) on 8.5″ x 11″ paper with 1″ margins. Manuscripts should run
between 10 and 25 pages in typed length and should include an abstract. Text
should be double-spaced throughout in a 12 point font, preferably saved as a
Microsoft Word document.

One blind copy of the manuscript using the word author instead of your name.
Remove coauthor names and affiliations.

Tables and figures as needed. Any information from footnotes and appendixes
should be incorporated in the main text.

Editorial review usually takes 3-4 months. Particular attention needs to be
paid to the style of referencing used. In most aspects,* The High School
Journal *follows the format elaborated in The Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association. All figures must be camera-ready.
