Image/Video Tools:

• Jing (http://jingproject.com) - A free app from TechSmith lets you take screenshots or record a video of computer screen activity and then upload it to screencast.com to share with your students or peers. I know one instructor who provides her students with an oral critique of their work using Jing. The free version only allows you to produce branded swf video files. There is a pro version available if you feel you need unbranded MPEG-4 files.
• CamStudio (http://camstudio.org - An open source application that allows you to create streaming video files by capturing audio and screen activity from your computer. It has received pretty good reviews on sourceforge.net.

Audio Tools

• Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ - Another open source application for recording AND editing audio. Windows, Mac, and Linux versions are available. Audacity has been around for awhile and in July 2009 received a SourceForge.net Community Choice Award for “Best Project for Multimedia.”

Web Conferencing Tools

• DimDim (http://www.dimdim.comM - A cool site that lets you set up web conferences for up to 20 people. It is very easy to create an account and schedule a virtual meeting. You can even use a webcam to display your talking head if that’s important to you.
