I recieved notice of this event through my son’s elementary class. After reviewing the website I noticed many items that interested my family noted that they were “strenuous”. What activites would you suggest for children ages 5 & 7? Also, should we bring our wet boots or are the hikes too long for those?

    Thank You!

Thanks for posting these questions, I will try to answer them because others are probably also wondering about similar issues.

Please wear good walking shoe/boots and dress for the outdoors.

A variety of activities are provided so that you can pick and choose what best fits the interests and experience of your family members.

    SEDENTARY: for young/old, mobility impaired
MODERATE: a normal walk in the woods
STRENUOUS: expect to be challenged, like a scout

We ask the adults in each group to decide how to match each kid with appropriate activities. Some 5-yr olds with lots of energy and experience can keep up with the middle-school kids on the strenuous walks. Adults should decide when to turn back when kids reach their limits.

A 5-year old who has NOT been on hikes with your family will find plenty to do with the KidsBlitz activities associated with the booths in the Main parking lot. The walk along the Post Oak trail from the Equestrian parking lot will be a fun discovery activity for the younger kids to work off their excess energy.

If your kids love to stomp in puddles, I would highly recommend the Frog Walk on Fri. eve. Last year the puddle by the Main Parking Lot was full of tadpoles which the kids tried to catch.

Q: Will the stargazing be cancelled due to rain?

BRASS and BVAC have members coming Friday night and Saturday.

[Brazos Region Astronomy Service Society and Brazos Valley Astronomy Club]

There may be as many as 20 workers Friday night. We’ll be happy to help with anything needed.

It looks like we may have some clouds but not enough to run us off yet.

    Clear skies happen.

This is a great post and makes me think of where I can fit in. I do a little bit of everything mentioned here and I guess I have to find my competitive advantage.
