“Unspoken Pressure”

The pay gap that exist in the US workforce today is apparently a thanks to the “choices” women make. Choices like excepting lower pay and lower jobs in order to create balance in their families, but this argument is nothing knew what strikes me is the word “choice” in itself. Is the reason women choose less paying jobs because they want children and a happy family life or is there something more, something behind close doors. What happens in one’s home is unknown to the outside world, pressure to make certain moves is only known to the husband and wife under that roof, so who says that the majority of women don’t feel pressure to let their husbands make more and work higher end paying jobs, even if the pressure is unspoken. Tradition would be an excellent example of this “unspoken pressure”. men are competitive and women are fragile, society’s outlook and they way one is expected to behave or take on as a role, though how many brave women today step outside these traditions to become and do what they desire, is our lack in judgement holding women back? It’s not till the twentieth century that women start to make a small dent in the workforce numbers and those compared to men, but why now and what is their motivation to finally step up? Is our society becoming more comfortable excepting the unfamiliar or the new images, or is tradition becoming overrated? This unspoken pressure is falling and a new voice is rising, the rights and equality of women who will no longer fall for what seems or is considered right from wrong.
