The Sacrifice to Rise
Sacrifice is a term America is little familiar with when compared to other nations. But there was a time when our nations made great sacrifices to make this country a place where dreams are possible to achieve. These sacrifices consisted of death, war, struggle between own government, and conflict with other nations, but now there is a new sacrifice on the rise. Women are to thank for our generations healthy, educated children for the prosperity and skills they will give back when able to enter the work force. Though as women start to take a new stand in society there is a fall between the relationships of parents and their children. Is the efforts of women to rise in society causing a downfall for future healthy, educated generations to take our place when the time comes?
Anita Gabriel comments in her article “Empowering Women“, that more needs to be done to support women in the workforce and their families at home. The main idea of her article was empowering women in a financial aspect, in which could benefit the families of the working mother if she earned more and worked less. As a daughter of a working mother and father i first hand experienced the conditions of having an absent mother in which a nanny took my mothers place till the age of 13. I have grown to be an independent women with strong ethics but i do not know who or what i owe the character to, a mother who set an example of a rising class or to a nanny who was like a second mom? Now that i am older I have a clear understanding of what my mother was and has been trying to accomplish in hers and my life, the rise of women in the workforce. I look up to her not only as a model in the business world, but to how i will one day raise my children, but without the nanny aspect. I can only hope to accomplish to raise children that will understand what i do now and what women are trying to accomplish but can this be done when pay is low and work for women is dominated by men? What sacrifice must a women make to rise in her profession and raise her family?
